UK is country of western Europe comprising England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Beginning with the kingdom of England, it was created by three acts of union: with Wales (1536), Scotland (1707), and Ireland (1801).
The UK has been welcoming international students to its universities and colleges for many years. In 2012, there were around 1.8 million full-time undergraduate students in higher education, of which over 400,000 were international students. UK universities offer respected and internationally-recognized qualifications across a broad range of subjects.
